Thanks to the internet and the lead farmer at Green Gulch Farm, I have learned these are the spawn of the green cabbage moth. A ruthless eater best managed with a pesticide called BT or hand picked off and killed promptly. Both are decidedly disappointing mechanisms for control. Makes me wonder how their presence relates to trends in a warming climate.
